Locals announce creation of new La Manga North Residents’ Association

Publicado el 18 de agosto de 2011 – Edición en papel Nº 56

Meeting with San Javier Mayor as residents deem “good vibes” an ideal moment to start neighbourhood group.

Taking advantage of the good dispostion that the new San Javier administration is showing towards the issues of La Manga, a group of locals have revealed the creation of the Asociación de Propietarios de La Manga Norte. The aim is to build solid ties in which to channel issues brought forward in this large section at the top end of the strip and address them to the council. Management In charge of the new association are Ángel Martínez, Rolando Artigues, Juan García, José Antonio Garvía and José Arqués; some of which met with the San Javier mayor on Thursday 4th August. “The meeting was very interesting and the mayor admitted that there were a number of issues pertaining to La Manga North and of the need to find solutions”, said the locals.

They also stated that this was a good opportunity to create the association and they feel (and trust) the “good will” shown so far by the new town hall towards La Manga: a sentiment voiced on many occasions by the administration both on the electoral campaign and after having taken office.

Sewage

According to the heads of the La Manga North residents’ Association, the most pressing topic at present is the review and updating of the sewage and drainage system; a large project which locals believe “should be undertaken”. They also deem the lack of council services after the Puente de la Risa section as “alarming”. These two issues play a big part in a newly drafted association manifesto which includes other topics needed to be addressed including the research (and prevention) of jellyfish invasions, the Posidonia seaweed gathering and the urgent implementation of a decent garbage collection system.

Reinvestment

The residents’ association believes that concerning council budgets La Manga has a need for this neighbourhood group and deserves much more investment in its services and what locals pay in taxes in comparison to the council services received in return.

Best wishes for all your projects of improvement in La Manga del Norte. I like the little bridge, it is an attractive sight from far.
